Scope:

TNEI was commissioned by 2020 Renewables to provide planning, environmental, noise and technical consultancy services in relation to a proposed 14 turbine wind farm development located near Tweedsmuir in the Scottish Borders. This project was progressed as an application for consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act due to its generating capacity exceeding 50MW. On this project TNEI were responsible for progressing the site from initial layout design through to the consenting phase and this involved provision of the following services:

  • Coordination of environmental baseline assessments;
  • Constraints mapping and site design;
  • Pre-application discussions with Local Authority and Scottish Government;
  • Preparation and submission of EIA Scoping Report;
  • ECDU ‘Gate Check’ Report;
  • EIA project management and coordination;
  • ES technical review (including legal review);
  • Ongoing planning policy advice;
  • Attendance at public exhibitions;
  • Planning Statement, Design Statement; and 
  • Pre-application Consultation Report;
  • Noise Assessment (including Cumulative Noise Assessment);
  • Shadow Flicker Assessment;
  • Socio-economic Assessment; and
  • Post-submission support.

This project demonstrates TNEI’s ability to manage and lead large scale wind projects from inception through the environmental assessment process, together with the ability to deliver an integrated service using specialist teams that work closely together to provide services which are personalised to the requirements of the client. 

Our EIA project teams typically comprise RTPI qualified town planners working together with Environmental Specialists who are Members of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), Registered EIA Practitioners or Chartered Environmentalists. This ensures we have the right combination of skills and experience to provide high quality EIA advice and environmental documents.
